Reader’s Haven Bookstore Reduces Waste
Susan Griffith, owner, and her daughter Lindsey run Reader’s Haven Book Store in downtown Tobermory. Over the years they have made some changes in the store to help promote less waste. They’ve transitioned to using primarily paper bags and reusable/recyclable bags, they sell reusable bags (frequently featuring book and cat themes), and they encourage customers to use their own bags. They’ve also implemented their own version of BYO offering a discounted price on coffee if you bring your own travel mug and are working towards a water bottle refill program too. They actively contact companies they order from to encourage them to change their packaging materials to be recyclable in another effort to reduce their waste, and they’re happy to see this BYO initiative take flight in their community.
